Day 2 – Stakeholders United: The Multi-Faceted Approach to Combating SGBV
Addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) requires a coordinated effort from various sectors of society. This article highlights the crucial roles of key stakeholders and showcases successful collaborations in the fight against SGBV.
Spotlight on Successful Stakeholder Meetings and Collaborations
- Multi-Sector Response Team A groundbreaking initiative brought together police, healthcare workers, social services, and legal professionals to create a seamless support system for SGBV survivors. This collaboration ensures that from the moment a case is reported, the survivor receives coordinated care and support through every step of the process.
- Community Leaders Workshop A series of workshops with traditional and religious leaders has led to a significant shift in community attitudes towards SGBV. By engaging these influential figures, the project has been able to challenge harmful cultural norms and promote gender equality at the grassroots level.
- Youth Engagement through Sports The STOP GBV campaign, which uses community football as a platform for anti-GBV education, has been a resounding success. This innovative approach has reached young people who might not engage with traditional awareness programs, fostering peer-to-peer discussions about healthy relationships and gender respect.
- Government-NGO Partnership A recent meeting between MPs, senators, and NGO representatives has led to concrete commitments for policy reform. This collaboration is pushing for amendments to strengthen the legal framework around SGBV and increase resources for prevention and response efforts.
- Media Training Initiative A joint effort between media houses, SGBV experts, and survivor advocacy groups has resulted in more sensitive and accurate reporting of SGBV cases. This has helped to raise public awareness while respecting survivors’ dignity and privacy.
The Power of United Efforts
These collaborations demonstrate the power of a multi-faceted approach to combating SGBV. By bringing together diverse stakeholders, we’re creating a more comprehensive and effective response to this complex issue.
Inspector Mwangi sums it up well: “No single entity can tackle SGBV alone. It’s only by working together, sharing our expertise, and supporting each other that we can hope to create lasting change.”
As we move forward, these partnerships will continue to be crucial in implementing the DVA, supporting survivors, and ultimately, in creating a society free from gender-based violence.
